Developing Home House Homestead and Sufi Spiritual and Healing Retreat Sanctuary
Here at Home House Homestead we tend to the land and animals with reverence and the intention to be in a sacred symbiotic relationship with all.
Home House is a flint stone and brick house on about an acre and a half of land. Most of the building dates back to the 1800’s. The front of the house has trailing wisteria up the front and beautiful arch window in the middle of the building. The house is sandwiched in by two driveways and is fenced in by young weaving willow we planted last year. A stunning woodland faces the front which seems to continuously offer protection from the strong winds and extreme weather we sometimes get.
As you enter into the beautiful old front door on the North side of the house, you come into the entrance hall with a toilet and shower room. You walk through to the large living room with original wooden parquet floor and an exposed wood burner. There is a door that leads to the bright conservatory and one that leads to the kitchen with an 8 seated oak dining table and chairs with another fire place. There are double doors leading out to the garden too.
A little door in the corner of the kitchen leads up some quirky stairs to the first floor with 3 double bed rooms and a single room and a shared bathroom with double sinks and bidet.
The garden outside has some beautiful mature trees, a tulip tree, a pom pom tree, a whitebeam, various Japanese maples, roses, and 3 apple trees. There is a pond and herb garden.
In the garden to the right is the fire pit area and a space on the lawn with plans for a yurt or roundhouse to be used as a sacred prayer and teaching space. To the left, there was a wonderful pergola with wisteria and roses trailing up and over the top which we had to take down due to it needing to be rebuilt which is still the plan. Walking through that area, you pass a sweet duck egg blue summer house converted into a little outdoor bedroom, sheltered under a plum and maple tree where you come to an iron gate taking you out to the homestead land.
The garage will eventually be taken down and there is planning permission to build a 2 bedroom, timber framed eco annex in its place.
The land beyond the garden at the back of the house, was purchased in January 2022 with the intention to begin homesteading. It was a completely blank canvas, a bare field and in the last 2 years, the land was divided in two and in the front half we built up a mound to plant fruit trees for an orchard, a hedgerow all the way along the border to the right of the land, created an area for chickens and geese and a large vegetable garden with a polytunnel. The back paddock will be used eventually for grazing animals, sheep and/or goats and seasonal camping. There are plans to build compost toilets and showers. At the back of the field there is a pond area which, during the drought in summer 2022, dried it out completely allowing us to go in and clear away the over growth of trees and bushes opening out a beautiful and tranquil pond and potential wild bathing area.
There is still so much to be done in the development of this project…the house renovations, redecoration and possible restructuring of the rooms. With continued faith, trust and guidance from the Divine, Amanda continues to listen deeply to her heart and follow the trail of bread crumbs as they appear and allow the unfolding and emergence of Home House Homestead.
